Extend the Freshness of Your Mint with Our Shock Treatment Guide

When it comes to preparing the perfect cocktail garnish using fresh ingredients, we know the devil is in the details. Today, we're diving deep into how you can keep your mint looking and tasting garden-fresh for days with a simple shock treatment.

Beautifully shocked mint can stay fresh up to five days.

Understanding the Mint Shocking Method:

Mint can quickly become wilted and discolored, but with the shocking method, you can ensure it remains vibrant and fresh. Here’s how to do it effectively:

Step-by-Step Guide:

Pick off WIlting Leaves: Along the bottom of each stalk, remove any excess or wilting shreds of mint leaf. We like to leave a 'palm tree' look at the top, but how much you choose to discard is entirely up to preference.

Trim the Mint: Cut the mint stems at a 45-degree angle to increase their water absorption capability.

Cold Water Shock: Submerge the trimmed stems in ice water for about 15 minutes. This process firms up the mint and revitalizes its vibrant green color.

Quick Warm Dip: After the cold shock, dip the stems briefly in warm water. This step completes the shock and helps the mint adjust better to room temperature once out of the bath.

Complete the revival by placing mint, stems-first into a hot water bath.

Store in damp paper towels: If you plan to refrigerate your mint after shocking it, ensure you're wrapping it neatly with damp paper towels. This will help preserve the mint's freshness for a longer duration.

Why This Method Works

Shocking mint with cold then warm water halts its aging process temporarily, keeps it crisp, and prevents wilting. This technique is particularly useful in a professional setting where the visual appeal and aroma of ingredients like mint significantly impact the overall drink experience, or when you might not use an entire batch of it in one afternoon.
